I always love to make a white bear, even though it presents quite a challenge when it comes to adding any sort of color. If you are too heavy handed with color, you can ruin the bear very quickly. At first, I thought I would make this bear a boy. I soon learned that this is definitely a girl bear. I went through all my vintage dresses and must have tried at least fifteen on the bear before I found this dress. It is obviously mommy or grandmommy made with lace at the sleeves and hem. It snaps up the back and is not "permanent press". I gave her a pink chiffon bow which matches the pink in her dress.

I have done very extensive scissor and needle sculpting to her face and have added some color to bring out her features. She has German hand blown glass eyes and her nose is hand embroidered with pearl cotton.

The bear is about 14" standing (which she does not do by herself) and 10" sitting. She is five way jointed with hard board disks, locks nuts and a cotter pin in her neck. She has a pouch of copper BB�s in her bottom for a bit of added weight and has wool felt paw pads which have been sculpted with subtle shading added. Her arms are also wired to give her more pose-ability. As with all my creations, she does not have a name. Since she is being adopted, it is up to his new mother or father to give her a name they deem appropriate.
