Bear No. 736
by Charlene Draeger
12 inches (30.4 centimeters)

I am very reluctant to put this little girl up for sale, since she has been one of my favorites for quite some time. There is just something about the way her face turned out that endears her to me. If any of you makes bears or have tried to make bears, you know that the facial expression is not something you can plan ahead. It relies on how the bear sews and stuffs and the precise placement of her features. And if you are lucky, you get a bear you fall in love with. Since she definitely looked like a little girl, I found a vintage dress that coordinates with the color of her fur. The dress is a blue and brown plaid, and the brown in the plaid almost exactly matches the variations in the color of her fur. I dont know the exact age of the dress, but I know it is quite old and was made by someone for a little girls doll. To give her a more girlie look, I placed an off white chiffon ribbon on top of her head.

The bear is made out of a batik Schulte mohair in a gold with light gold. I used this to advantage on the gusset where the mohair is lighter and gives her the look that she has either sun bleached fur or has helped mother nature along. I have done extensive scissor and needle sculpting to her face and have added some color to bring out her features. She has hand blown glass eyes, at the bottom of which I added white ultrasuede to give her more expression. Her nose is hand embroidered with pearl cotton.

The bear is a little over 12" standing and 9" sitting (she cannot stand by herself). She is five way jointed with hard board disks, locks nuts and a cotter pin in her neck. She has a pouch of copper BBs in her belly for some added weight. She has ultrasuede paw pads, which have been sculpted and shaded. I have also wired her arms so she has more poseability. As with all my creations, she does not have a name. Since she is being adopted, it is up to her new mother or father to give her a name they deem appropriate.
