Since the immemorial times a flock of mermaids has lived in the northern waters of the Celtic Sea. They were of stunning beauty. Just a look at one of them and the heart of a male fell down. But Brianna was a special one. The look of her green eyes beckoned, promised, attracted. It seemed that Brianna's figure was carved from stone and bathed in salt water. But her tail stroked the imagination. Emerald, with many shades, it shimmered in the sun as Brianna emerged from the depths.
Probably it was the tail that initially attracted the attention of Éogan, a stately sailor. He was a good-looking young man. He gained the fame of a womanizer and a conqueror of the hearts. But when he saw Brianna, Éogan himself fell under the power of her spell. The lovers could not part for a moment. Éogan spent all the time at sea with beautiful Brianna. Once, before his next voyage to the new lands, he gave the mermaid a beautiful necklace as a reminder of their love, and, promising to return as soon as possible, set off on a ship to the unknown shores.
However, the necklace, which was a symbol of their feelings, became a curse. When Brianna swam with it, it pulled her into the depths, preventing her from resurfacing. It became her personal anchor. But the power of love for Éogan was above all, and the mermaid decided to wait for her lover on the rocky stones of the coast ...
Years passed, they turned into decades. The decades turned into the centuries ... Outside the water Brianna faded away: only green eyes and a stunning tail that shimmered in the moonlight and played with highlights in the sun reminded of her former beauty. Brianna aged along with her necklace she could not part with.
They say that Brianna can still be seen sitting in the same place, waiting for Éogan. Her tail still excites experienced sailors.
There is a legend that when Brianna lights her pipe, a thick fog descends on the Orkney Islands ...
