Welcome to Marmalade Bears!
An embroiderer by proffession, my own bear making journey started back in 2018 when I bought a bear making kit quite by chance!
My vast collection of vintage velvet seemed my logical material of choice so I dyed it, applied the new techniques I had learned, and my little velvet animals were born! People asked to buy them and I was introduced to Bearpile and a passion was born!
A bit more practice and knowledge has led me on to designing and making small mohair teddies. I use vintage mohair which I also hand dye. Like velvet, it takes colour beautifully and creates lovely little bears! My love of dressmaking has also translated into the miniature clothes I make for my bears and turn them into characters all of their own.
My bears are hand stitched and I hope my love of all things fuzzy and furry shines through.I work with my workbox on my lap surrounded by my adorable "hug" of bears who love to offer me tips but mainly get marmalade biscuit crumbs everywhere which can be rather annoying!.
"Marmalade Bears" is derived from my childhood pet name and my first self drafted bear who was finished whilst watching "Paddington" and duly called Marmalade in honour of the Marmalade sandwich always in Paddingtons pocket!Likewise my bears have a Marmalade biscuit in their pocket!
