Hello, My name is Christel Van Hove and I am an award-winning, self-taught artist. I live with my husband Johan, my daughter Maya, and my mom in Werchter, a small town in Belgium. I'm working as a fulltime teacher with children between 2,5 - 12 years old. Craft has always played an important part in my life. When i was a little child my grandmother was always busy and i was very interested. Soon I discovered sewing, knitting,... I started with collecting dolls from Philip Heath and Anette Himstedt, more than 20 years ago. On the shows i saw also those lovely bears... and i was started to collect them to. In 2005, I started designing my own bears. My bears are made from mohair, viscose, russian plush,... and most of them feature sculptured and shaded faces and paw pads. I am also using wool for needlefelting details. I love to make some distressed and vintage looked bears, but also elephants, rabbits,...i love to make.
My favourite part of making a bear is creating its personality by sculpting and shading its face and embroider or needlefelting its nose. Most of the time i design “one of a kind” bears. I hope to hear from you soon. Beary hugs, Christel
