9½ inches (24.1 centimeters)

Artist Teddy Bear sewing pattern.

These bears measure around 9.5 inches tall and are all made from the same pattern. The pattern includes instructions of how to add 'hair' to you bear if you choose to. The extra-long arms, ‘pear-drop’ body and wistful expression makes these very endearing little bears.

The pattern is full size and includes seam allowances. There are comprehensive instructions including how to add silk hair if you choose to as well as a colour photos and a component and tool guide.

Kuma chose not to have hair. She was made in a pale pink mohair with deep pink backing fabric.

Rick is created in sparse pale fawn mohair with a dark brown backing. I did not give him any hair either, he thought it was a girl thing. I pointed out that boys do have hair, he could have a tonsure or a fringe/bangs but he preferred to go without.

If you do persuade him to wear hair the Instructions on how to insert the silk filament is included.

The other photos show the variations you can achieve with this pattern. The four-part body will allow you to mix and match fabrics and it would make a great gift for the sewer in your life.

The pattern is PDF and on confirmation of payment I will email you a PDF file you can then download. When printing from adobe please go into the 'page scaling' options set on 'Actual Size' or 'None' to be sure your pattern prints out at the exact size.

You may print the pattern as many times as you please and you may sell the completed bear if you wish with credit to Tulip Bears for its design but please don’t sell the pattern.

Hi, thank you for visiting my store. My name is Maureen I live in Durham, England. I have been making bears since 1993.

I started creating small bears thinking it would be a simple way to add a little variety to my stall at craft fairs when taking my handmade dolls to shows. I had no idea what I was tampering with! Bears, I soon discovered, are not to be treated in so caviller a fashion. They quickly took hold of my heart and deftly moved the dolls off stage almost completely.

Captivated, I developed my own patterns and made giant bears of 40 plus inches to tiny ones of 2 or 3 inches. I experimented with mohair, alpaca, tweed, faux fur, velvet, baby-cord, and more in just about every combination. I settled mostly on the wide variety of mohair available though I still experiment and am constantly updating my patterns and styles.

I began by designing very traditional bears, humps, long arms and all. But soon strayed to what I term 'character bears'. I now have a wide variety of traditional and character bears and am currently working on a new pattern which will wander still further from the traditional teddy. That said, I think 'Ye Olde Brune Bear' will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Please have a good look round and if you have a question just get in touch and I'll do my best to help.
Maureen.
