Mariposa
By Michelle Lamb
14"
It's been a long while since I have done a fairy bear and this one was so fun to make. Her name is Mariposa, Spanish for butterfly because of her lovely coloration and painted resin butterfly wings. I painted these spring mounted wings and attached them only by tying them onto her back with organdy pastel ribbons so they can be removed if you like.
Mariposa is 14" long and made from a pale golden beige curly matted mohair. I gave her elfish shaped eyes with elaborate eyelids shimmered in color surrounding vibrant blue glass eyes. She has intricate cathedral style stitched paw pads also enhanced with color along with her iridescent floss nose to which I added some fairy dust sparkle to make her magical looking.
Mariposa is hardboard jointed and has weight inside and is stuffed with polyfil. I created her fairy tutu by alternating various pastel shade of organdy ribbon and giving them a v shape edge so that it would look rougher edged rather than ballerina neat so as to have her seem closer to nature and the wild. I also fashioned some sprigs of pastel berries, some glass beaded, for her head, neck and waist so that her entire ensemble is a lovely composition of midsummer night colors. These sprigs are all moveable for posing. She comes with a tush tag and Certificate of Authenticity proving she's a “One&Only”Bear made by Michelle Lamb, three time 2010 TOBY & Golden Teddy nominee. Her price is $580 and layaway is always available. Just email me for details. The lottery drawing to choose a name for a chance to purchase her (shipping & insurance not included and your choice) will be held July 10th. Email me your name if interested in a chance to purchase Mariposa.
